What were you thankful for…
November 30, 2009 | | 8 Comments
Recently a family member passed away just before Thanksgiving. That was her favorite holiday of the entire year. All the family would gather together and she was always thankful for being able to see everyone. That made me think, what are you thankful for?

2009 Word of the Year…
November 17, 2009 | | 20 Comments
According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, the word of the year in 2009 is ‘UNFRIEND’ which means: “to remove someone as a friend on a social networking Web site such as Facebook.”
Each year Oxford University Press tracks how the English language is changing and chooses a word that best reflects the mood of the year. A close runner-up was netbook, which is a small laptop.
Do you think that a word like unfriend is the best word for the year? I am upset that something which is so negative, a word that means ‘to not be friends anymore’ is selected to be the Word of the Year. How do you feel or, what word would you have picked?

Want to take a ride into outspace???
November 6, 2009 | | 31 Comments
NASA and various groups are currently working on developing a method to ride an elevator into space.
This would take you up through the atmosphere and you would arrive at a space station in orbit around Earth. Would you want to ride in that elevator?

One Person Can Make a Difference…
October 28, 2009 | | 27 Comments
The main quote from an 80’s TV show came true for one crustacean. ‘Larry the Lobster’, a 70 year old crustacean, probably born before WW2, sitting in his own tank at a restaurant in NY will be released back into the wild. The lobster, who was sitting out his days waiting to be eaten weighs a whopping 11 pounds. One food reporter wrote a story about ‘Larry’ and wondered about the age of his other foods. This story received such attention that emails, letters, and phone calls flooded both the newspaper and the restaurant. The owner felt prompted to release ‘Larry’ back into the ocean waters of Maine.

Start to Finish…

I’m taking a carving course on Wednesday where we learn how to woodcarve a wolf’s head out of a block of wood. Below is the block and how it should look when finished. It should take till Dec. to make this. That’s once a week for about 14 weeks carving 3.5 hours each class. for a total of about 49 hours of carving. Is there anything you have worked on that you enjoy that took a long amount of time?

What do you think of 3-D Movies? You know, the movie where you need to wear red & blue lens glasses. The movie that has characters or things jumping off the screen towards you.

Flood Waters Start to go Down
September 30, 2009 | | 35 Comments
Some of our Southern States have had unusual amounts of rain which have caused flooding. The floods got me thinking, are we prepared for natural disasters? For instance if living in California, where the wild fires force people out of their homes, what do they have prepared to take with them? In the Mid-Western States, where tornadoes can occur with little warning, do they have a bag packed to grab when the siren sounds? So, what do you have or would you have ready in case of an emergency?

Robotic Design
September 17, 2009 | | 21 Comments
Today, robots are emerging in everyday life. Movies portray robots as being either heroic or villainous.

The robotics industry is booming with the hope of being the first company to make a free thinking, human like robot. But, today we have great news! Your design for a robot is being shown off to the public through means of TV station interviews. What does it look like? What will it do? How is it made? Is it like humans? Will it cost much? And there could be endless questions… “Ladies and gentlemen, we have breaking news. Our out and about reporter Tricia Takanowa is on the scene with all the details. Tricia what do you have for us today?”
